Spiritual Direction

.Spiritual direction is a gentle and supportive practice that invites individuals to explore their relationship with God in a safe and nurturing space. It is not about receiving instructions or being told what to believe, but rather about being accompanied on one’s unique spiritual journey.

At its heart, spiritual direction is a sacred conversation, where a trained and compassionate listener walks alongside you. Together, you reflect on the movements of the Spirit in your everyday life, your hopes, your struggles, and your questions. The director is there not to judge or to provide all the answers, but to listen deeply and help you discern God’s gentle invitations.

This practice is rooted in the ancient Christian tradition, where faithful companionship and attentive listening have always been valued. Spiritual direction honours your personal story and your pace, respecting the sacredness of your experiences and doubts. It is a space marked by confidentiality, kindness, and prayerful presence.

In essence, spiritual direction is a safe harbour for your soul, where you can rest, reflect, and be gently encouraged as you seek a deeper sense of your direction God’s loving presence in your life.

Everyone can benefit from spiritual direction because it offers a rare gift: the chance to pause, listen, and discover the deeper rhythms of your heart. In a world that often rushes us along, spiritual direction provides a nurturing space where your questions and longings are honoured without judgement. Here, you are gently encouraged to trust your inner wisdom and to recognise the unique ways in which God’s presence is unfolding in your life.

This journey does not require you to have everything figured out or to be a certain type of person – it welcomes you just as you are. Spiritual direction empowers you to become more attuned to your own story, to find strength in your vulnerability, and to embrace hope amidst uncertainty. By listening with compassion and accompanying you faithfully, I aim to help you realise that you are not alone and that your journey is sacred and worthy of attention.

What happens in a session?

contact

These meetings can take place, either online or in person.

Throughout the session, you will be invited to share whatever is stirring in your heart – your joys, struggles, questions, and moments of grace. The session often begins with a few moments of quiet reflection or prayer, allowing us to both settle and become present to the moment. As you speak, my aim is to listen deeply to where you are on your journey in life. I will listen without judgement, offering gentle questions or observations that will help to you notice where God might be at work in your life.

There is no set agenda; the conversation unfolds naturally, guided by your needs and the subtle promptings of the Spirit. Silence is welcomed as a sacred pause, providing space for inner listening and allowing what is most important to surface. Throughout the session, you will be encouraged to pay attention to your feelings, images, and memories, and to reflect on how these connect with your spiritual journey.

Spiritually, you are nourished in this space by being truly heard and accepted, just as you are, recognising God’s loving gaze upon your life. Over time, these conversations nurture a deeper sense of connection to God, foster greater self-awareness, and help you to discern the gentle invitations that lead to growth and renewal. In this way, spiritual direction becomes a wellspring of quiet strength and encouragement, supporting you as you continue on your unique path of faith.

I look forward to being part of your journey.

Emotional Healing

Emotional Healing prayer and Sozo are gentle, transformative approaches designed to support the ‘receiver’ on their journey towards emotional and spiritual wholeness. Emotional healing sessions are free and available to all.

Rooted in the belief that inner wounds and past experiences can hinder our sense of wellbeing and connection with God, these prayer-based practices offer a safe space for healing. Through guided prayer, compassionate listening, and the invitation to encounter the loving presence of God, you are encouraged to identify and release unresolved pain, unhealthy patterns, and limiting beliefs.

Sozo is a Greek word that appears in the New Testament more than a hundred times. It means “saved, healed, delivered”, and is a powerful form of inner healing prayer that helps people experience greater freedom by addressing the roots of emotional struggles and spiritual blockages.

I aim to gently facilitate a process in which participants can hear from God for themselves, uncovering truths that bring wholeness and peace. Emotional Healing prayer honours the uniqueness of each person’s journey, working at a pace that feels comfortable and respectful, and always with the intention of fostering deeper connection with God and lasting transformation.

Who will benefit from emotional healing?

I believe that we all can benefit from emotional healing. Anyone who has been hurt in their lives, either intentionally or by accident, these wounds can be healed. Personally, I go for emotional healing on a regular basis in the same way you would get your car serviced. It is hard (and very rare) to be fully healed of all your emotional wounds and many of those wounds can block us from having a complete relationship with God. Also, life can be tough and we can pick up new wounds just in our normal everyday lives.

Emotional healing can be described as being like an onion. In a first session, we might be dealing with an area that is having a big impact on your life, but once that ‘layer’ has been healed you may choose to go deeper. As we peel each layer of pain away, people often describe it as feeling like a weight has been lifted from them.

When we come for emotional healing, there is no judgement and all prayers are done through a lens of compassion. I find it sad that church and Christians are sometimes associated more with judgement than compassion and understanding. Jesus desires us to be free of our wounds and our chains and this can only be achieved through honesty and an atmosphere of acceptance.

What happens in an emotional healing prayer session?

The prayer meeting can take place, either online or in person. Where possible, I recommend having a third person present, this can either be with one of my prayer partners or, if you prefer, a friend to support you.

We can start in one of two ways. If you have something that you want healed we can start with the issue that is presenting a problem in your life. If you have no idea where to start, we can allow God to decide, and between us we will discern what God wants to heal first.

When it comes to emotional healing, it is important to understand the power and the value of forgiveness. If you don’t feel ready to forgive someone, we can talk about the process more either before, or during, the healing session. Forgiveness is difficult and can take a long time, but through the help of Jesus healing can come faster and more completely than expected.

Meditation / Contemplation

Christian meditation and contemplative prayer are ancient practices that invite individuals into a deeper relationship with God through silence, stillness, and attentive presence. These practices often involve focusing on a sacred word, passage of Scripture, or simply sitting quietly in God’s presence, allowing the mind to settle and the heart to open. The process is not about achieving perfection in thought, but about cultivating a gentle awareness of the divine and inviting spiritual nourishment.

Regular engagement with these practices can increase inner peace, reduce stress, and nurture a sense of clarity and centredness. Contemplation encourages a greater awareness of God’s presence in everyday life, deepens spiritual insight, and supports emotional healing by providing space for reflection and renewal. Over time, individuals may notice improved resilience, greater compassion towards themselves and others, and a more grounded sense of purpose. Ultimately, these contemplative practices help integrate faith into daily living, supporting spiritual growth and overall wellbeing.

These sessions are tailored to the needs of the individual or organisation.

I offer both meditation classes and individual meditation tuition. These sessions are based on the ancient Christian practices of meditation and contemplative prayer. For more more information or to book a session, please contact me.

Prayer Ministry Training

In a prayer ministry training session, participants are introduced to the profound biblical truth that, as believers, they are members of a royal priesthood. This concept is rooted in Scripture, where followers of Christ are described as being set apart to serve, intercede, and represent God's love to others. Through reflective teaching and scriptural exploration, individuals begin to grasp their God-given dignity and responsibility, recognising that their prayers carry significance and authority.

The training emphasises that praying in the name of Jesus is not a mere formula, but an invitation to stand in the authority that Christ has imparted to His followers. Practical exercises, such as intercessory prayer and blessing others, help participants experience what it means to minister as believers – confidently and compassionately bringing the needs of others before God. By understanding their identity as part of a royal priesthood, individuals are empowered to pray with faith, assurance, and a deep sense of partnership with God in His redemptive work..

About me

Hi, my name is Paul and I am a spiritual director, screenwriter and dog lover. I was born in Minnesota, USA, grew up some time in Texas before moving to the UK. For me spiritual direction is not a career, but a calling. I love going on a spiritual journey with people and encountering God with them. It excites me to see the different ways that people experience God and how God experiences life with them. No two journeys are the same.

I have been in sales and been a personal trainer, but for most of my adult life I have been a writer – both as a writer of Film and Television but also a published author. I also have a background in improvisational comedy and am a bit of a classic movie buff. I love to cook, and while Texas barbecue is one of my favourites, the majority of my meals are now plant based. Most of my spare time is taken up with church activities. I run the church prayer ministry team and lead several courses at my church. I am particularly excited by the transformational power of prayer and study several forms or healing, including physical healing, emotional healing and deliverance mostly with the international organisation Global Awakenings.

In any spare time I have left, I have a serious book addiction and like to relax and watch TV.
